GCMTI of DH won the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Corporate Award (Platinum Award) in the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Award Scheme 2023-24


The Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute (GCMTI) won the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Corporate Award (Platinum Award) in the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Award Scheme 2023-24 launched by Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC). On 4 December 2023, the Assistant Director of Health (Chinese Medicine), Dr Edmund FONG, and his team members received the award from the HKCTC Chairman, Professor WONG Wing-tak, during the award presentation ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.


The biennial Award Scheme organised by the HKCTC aimed at recognising and promoting testing and certification (T&C) bodies to invest in continuous improvement and development. In particular, the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Corporate Award recognises accredited T&C organisations that have outstanding performance in promoting the manpower and professional development of T&C practitioners.


The assessment of the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Corporate Award covered the following four major Areas, with a total of 24 Criteria:

  • Commitment to T&C Practitioners’ Training and Development
  • Corporate Support to Enhance T&C Practitioners’ Competence and Professionalism
  • Caring for T&C Practitioners
  • with T&C Practitioners


GCMTI was awarded the highest tier Platinum Award. The encouraging result not only acknowledged DH’s achievements and efforts made in personnel training and human resources development, but also demonstrated GCMTI’s commitment in promoting the high-quality development of Chinese medicines testing and certification industry in Hong Kong.


GCMTI continuously strives for improvement in the field of quality management. Having acquired the accreditation under HOKLAS on the determination of chemical markers in Chinese medicinal oil since 2021, GCMTI expanded the scope of accreditation to cover microscopic identification of Carthami Flos (powder) in 2022.
